I'm Jess Wickett...
I am an aspiring Animator, with a BA (Hons) Illustration-Animation degree. My animations consist of experimental marks, analogue and digital methods, and a fluid, frame-by-frame approach. After completing my upcoming Animation Masters at The Royal College of Art, my ambition is to take my talent for animated storytelling into the industrial world, one that has begun to spark with public screenings and competition awards.
My Story
I began my journey as an experimental, analogue animator after starting Illustration-Animation at university, wanting to move away from the limitations of Fine Art. Using obscure narratives from Dystopian, Poetic and Theatrical literature, I strive to connect audiences with important, social messages, aiming to gain emotional reactions and open conversations with impactful work. I love using wet mediums, bold colours accents and experimenting with shapes, textures and analogue methods to bring out fluid, dynamic impressions of the world around me. Including my most recent animation "La Tempesta di Ariel", I see animating as an opportunity to express exciting narratives in a metaphorically interpretative approach, making the mundane exciting, changing perspectives on the world, and encouraging others to engage with a creative mindset. As my work is ever expanding and adapting, I use the motivation of the world around me and opportunities to explore new skills and approaches. I strive to excite and surprise audiences and to push the boundaries of visual communication in unexpected ways.
In the Autumn of 2024, I will begin the next chapter in my journey, taking on board a challenging Animation MA at The Royal College of Art.
