It's All Fur Coat, No Knickers

In my third year at UCA, I completed an animation developed from a dissertation discussing spatial identity in animation. After returning to my hometown Wigan, I developed a short film expressing my experiences and love for my own spatial identity, bringing to life my sketchbook from the experience.

About

A short film, part of a dissertation portfolio.

It's All Fur Coat, No Knickers develops from the classic Wigan dialect, meaning all bark and no bite. During the summer of 2023, I took a personal research trip to my hometown, where I grew up for the first 14 years of my life. The trip was an enlightening experience, I found a greater sense of closure reconnecting to my roots, and was inspired to share this with the wider community through the language of animation. My dissertation in question looked at spatial identity through Kid Cudi's 2022 Netflix film 'Entergalactic', a beautiful animation using vivid colours and ethereal visuals to express life in New York City. This animation looks at my experiences both good and the bad, the cultures that bring the spirit of Wigan to life, all in an attempt to celebrate a cultural community and challenge notions of gentrification in modern spatial planning.
